“The knock-out audience grabber, the shortest piece on the program, honored water in the form of a rainstorm on thirsty ground. Eric Whitacre’s “Cloudburst” musters the masterful forces of the ensemble using evocative vocal effects that extend the normal understanding of choral music. Percussionist Kevin Neuhoff produced rippling thunder sounds, and the choristers’ clicking fingers made an uncanny resemblance to rainfall. This dazzling contemporary work brought members of the audience to their feet, clapping and hooting in appreciation.”
