Eric Whitacre will premiere four new pieces with the Minnesota Orchestra and Minnesota Chorale in May 2015. The run of the three concerts will provide the first opportunity to hear the orchestral versions of Eric’s”Lux Aurumque” and “Godzilla Eats Las Vegas” as well as a new piece from composer Steven Bryant, “Ecstatic Waters”.

The concerts will end with a brand-new Whitacre piece for chorus, orchestra & electronica entitled “Deep Field”. “Deep Field” is based on the iconic Hubble Telescope Deep Field image captured over a period of 10 days in 1995. The image shows around 3,000 galaxies in one minute patch of sky just one 28-millionth of the total area. The image not only allows us to look through space, but also through time, with the oldest galaxies pictured being at least 12 billion years old, making them almost as old as the Universe itself (13.8 billion years according to recent calculations).
