Their lives as King’s Singers allows the group to travel to some incredible countries, meeting people from such vibrant, enthusiastic and culturally rich backgrounds, focussing on both music and education. Next month is no exception!
In early May the group travels to Czestochowa, Poland to perform in the Gaude Mater Festival on Saturday 2 May. This incredible institution has been running for over 20 years, showcasing the city and region. Of particular importance to the Festival is the promotion of Polish music, both old and new! This year, the winner of the International Composers competition, run in conjunction with the Musica Sacra Institute in Warsaw, will have their piece premiered at the Festival.
On their way to China, the group stop in the Philippines. On Saturday 8 May they travel to the Cultural Centre of the Philippines in Manila, to work and sing with the Philippine Madrigal Singers. They will perform an eclectic programme of music, including traditional folk song performed with the local choir.
Following performances in China they return to a wonderful set of UK dates, including Sheffield on Thursday 28 May, to perform the stunningly sublime Pater Noster in Cathedral Church of Saint Marie, with a selection of close harmony firm favourites in the second half.
Looking ahead to the autumn, the group is excited to be performing at the City of Derry International Choral Festival in October 2015. What an honour to be performing on the first day of the festival, particularly as it coincides with “Sing Joyfully! International Choral Symposium” hosted by good friend and former King’s Singer Bob Chilcott. They will also be leading a workshop during the morning after their performance.
Details on all these wonderful festivals and venues can be found on The King’s Singers Concert Calendar. We hope you are able to enjoy one of these events!
