Tickets are now on sale for Julian’s performance with the BBC Philharmonic at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on Saturday 12th March 2016.  Julian will be performing the original version of Copland’s Clarinet Concerto alongside the orchestra, who are performing a concert of Three Musical Adventures.

“The BBC Philharmonic has to be one of my favourite orchestras in the world. The first time I played with them was over 15 years ago and I always look forward to returning. Copland’s Clarinet concerto is a great piece, full of wit and energy. Written for Benny Goodman, it is incredibly influenced by Jazz. Goodman gave Copland free reign to write whatever he wanted. There were only 2 very small sections that Goodman asked Copland to change. These changes were made and the second version is one we are all familiar with.  The first draft, or original version, only exists as a manuscript, however I decided to transcribe the solo part from this manuscript and that is the version I will be playing.” Julian Bliss

Watch an anaylsis of Copland’s Concerto for Clarinet Harp and Strings with Alyn Shipton and Julian Bliss.
