Between 14 – 18 July, The King’s Singers will be guest artists at the World Choir Games, taking place in Riga, Latvia. The World Choir Games sees more than 20,000 singers from across the world come together for competitions, workshops and performances, and as part of this The King’s Singers will be participating in three concerts and leading two workshop sessions.
On Monday they have a solo performance in Arena Riga which sees them performing repertoire ranging from Renaissance madrigals through to songs by the Beatles and tracks from the Great American Songbook.
On Wednesday, they join with the vocal ensemble Latvian Voices and Xylem Trio for a performance at the Latvian National Opera House, where they will be performing the world premiere of some new folksong arrangements by composer Eriks Esenvalds. As well as this, they will perform some of their own folksong arrangements including “Lass of Richmond Hill” and “Little David Play On Your Harp”. The concert is being broadcast live on LTV1 TV channel.
Their final performance of the week is part of the “All Stars” event in Arena Riga on Thursday evening, where they will be performing along with composer Morten Lauridsen and Latvia’s Ave Sol choir.
The two workshops they will deliver are titled “An Audience With The King’s Singers” and “The Art of The King’s Singers”, and they will also be joining with Morten Lauridsen for a session exploring his work.
